Extremely rare, and expensive, virgin Japanese mizunara, comes from Hokkaido, the rugged most northern island of Japan. It is coopered to order in Japan's only independent cooperage, by Japan's oldest cooper. Mizunara amplifies much of what is already there while layering on more vanilla smoothness, sandlewood notes and even a little coconut, or gorse flower if you're from our neck of the woods.

This whiskey has very different and exotic flavours compared with what you'd expect from an Irish single malt.

A 17 Year Old Single Malt that was aged in ex-Bourbon barrels for the first 15 years before being transferred into a rare Japanese Mizunara cask for the final two years. It's predecessor the Glendalough 13 Year Old Mizunara Finish was named in the top 20 whiskeys in the world. Very aromatic and complex on the palate with notes of honeycomb, creamy vanilla and cedarwood spice.

It was the the final two years of maturation in the rare, Japanese Mizunara, however that brought the unexpected. The Mizunara oak, sourced from an island 6,000 miles away, has really rounded this whiskey, bringing the viscosity to a luxurious, creamy mouth-feel. Sweet but spicy, very smooth but very complex.

Woody spices and coconut aromas with some fruity notes.

PALATE
Luxurious creamy mouth-feel. Honey and vanilla with citrus. Sweet fruit with underlying wood spice.

FINISH

The 13-Year All-Sherry Single Malt was created by Bushmills in 2008. Fully matured in an Oloroso sherry butt, there is an aroma of dates dusted with white pepper, flaked almonds & crushed grapes. Crystallised ginger, caramelised banana, clove spices & sherry-soaked raisins on the palette give way to a medium finish with toasted oak, dark chocolate & roasted hazelnuts.

An exceptional whiskey. Limited to 292 500ml bottles. This will be a scarce release.

The standard expression of this trail blazing Irish Peated Single Malt. An aroma of sweet barley with wafts of peaty smoke, kippers and well baked apple crumble. Tastes of lightly honey sweet, subdued clean rather than sooty smoke with peaty vegetal notes, sweet barley water, light spice and vanilla oak.

This release from the great people at Walsh Whiskey is truly a must taste for whiskey enthusiasts. It is fully matured for 17 years in a sherry butt resulting in an incredibly deep ruby colour. It was awarded the Best Irish Whiskey (Overall) in 2019. It was bottled at a cask strength of 56%. This Tiny Tipple has come from bottle number 534 of 600 from cask number 6962, distilled in 2002.

An excellent example of mildly peated Irish whiskey. Connemara Distillers edition is matured in bourbon casks and finished in Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at a decent 43% with no age statement. The Connemara whiskeys lead the way when it comes to peated Irish whiskey.

An excellent expression of Connemara peated Irish single malt whiskey, presented as their Distillers Edition. Plenty of earthy, evocative smoke, paired with honey'd barley and juicy apple.

Nose: Smooth, with an oily texture and a deep, earthy and sooty note. Pepper spice. Dark fruits and roasted peaches. A ginger note develops towards the end.

Taste: Spicy, sweet, peppery wave, coal, ash, creamy confectionery notes.

Connemara Turf Mór is a heavily peated expression from the Cooley distillery. Its peat levels are rated at 50ppm so expect a lot of smoke in this one. Bottle at a cask strength of 58.25 abv. with a sherry finish. Very delicious and rare expression in the Irish peated category.

Cooley Distillery are unique in Ireland for producing double distilled peated whiskey which is more normally associated with Scotch whisky. Connemara peated whiskey is produced in several varieties including a cask strength and Connemara Turf Mór Peated (which means Big Turf in Irish) has been specially produced for the aficionado who wants not alone cask strength whiskey but who also wants extra peatiness in their whiskey. It’s a limited small batch release at just 20,000 bottles. No age statement.

Nose: Really deep and heavy Peat nose with slight hint of orchard fruits.
Taste: Deep strong almost, but not quite overpowering Peat and Turf. Creamy smooth mouth feel with no alcohol burn despite the cask strength
Finish: Extremely long and pleasant peaty finish.
